Fortinet FortiGate 30G

The Fortinet FortiGate 30G combines a next-generation firewall, SD-WAN and security services in a single desktop appliance, built for small offices and distributed enterprise sites. It delivers 4 Gbps firewall throughput, 800 Mbps IPS throughput and 500 Mbps threat protection throughput across 4× GE RJ45 ports, with capacity for 600,000 concurrent sessions and 2,000 firewall policies.

FortiGuard AI-powered security services run natively on the appliance. Network and file security draw on more than 18,000 IPS signatures with AI/ML-driven packet and SSL inspection and virtual patching for newly disclosed vulnerabilities, while anti-malware layers antivirus with sandboxing and application control gives real-time visibility of the apps on the network.

Web and DNS security defends against DNS-based attacks, malicious URLs, botnets and DDoS threats: DNS and URL filtering block harmful links, and IP reputation and anti-botnet services shut down botnet activity. The 30G supports 3.5 Gbps IPsec VPN throughput, up to 16 FortiAPs and 8 FortiSwitches, and a WiFi variant (FortiWiFi 30G) is available.

Bundle or hardware only?

Hardware only is the appliance with no FortiGuard subscription — right when you already hold licences or renew separately. The bundles add FortiCare Premium support plus a FortiGuard security services subscription (UTP or Enterprise Protection) for 1, 3 or 5 years, activated with the unit.

What does the FortiGate 31G add?

The 31G is the same platform with 30 GB of local storage for on-box logging and reporting; the 30G has no local storage. A FortiWiFi 30G variant adds built-in wireless.

Is the 30G the right size?

With 500 Mbps threat protection throughput and 600,000 concurrent sessions it suits small offices and branch sites. If you need more inspected throughput, the FortiGate 50G roughly doubles the IPS and threat protection figures.
