It runs FortiOS, Fortinet’s converged networking and security operating system, giving a single-OS approach to operational efficiency and unified protection as part of the wider Fortinet Security Fabric and Hybrid Mesh Firewall architecture. FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services are tightly integrated, delivering coordinated, automated threat protection in real time.

The 30G/31G family is built on a purpose-designed SD-WAN ASIC that delivers higher performance than general-purpose CPUs at lower cost and power draw, accelerating the convergence of networking and security functions to optimise secure connections at branch locations.

Hardware only is the appliance with no FortiGuard subscription — right for sites that already hold licences or renew separately. The bundles add FortiCare Premium support plus a FortiGuard security services subscription (Unified Threat Protection or Enterprise Protection) for 1, 3 or 5 years, activated with the unit.

What distinguishes the 31G from the 30G?

The 31G is the same platform as the 30G with 30 GB of onboard storage added for local logging and reporting; the base 30G has no local storage.
