Draytek Vigor 3912 Enterprise Router

The Vigor 3912 is DrayTek's enterprise router for bandwidth-demanding networks. A 2 GHz quad-core CPU keeps connection speeds high even with many devices online, and the port layout is unusually flexible: eight interfaces — 2 × 10G SFP+ for fibre, 2 × 2.5G Ethernet and 4 × 1G Ethernet — each independently configurable as WAN or LAN.

That means the same box can run multiple diverse internet feeds into a head office, or dedicate its 10G ports to the LAN core — whatever the design calls for. It installs in a rack with the included kit and console accessories. Downstream, pair it with a VigorSwitch PQ2300XB for a multi-gigabit PoE access layer feeding VigorAP 962c access points.

Frequently asked questions

How flexible is the WAN configuration?

Very — ports 1 to 8 are each independently configurable as WAN or LAN. Run several internet feeds for resilience and load distribution, or turn most ports over to the LAN; the mix is yours to define.

What are the 10G SFP+ ports for?

Fibre connectivity — either high-capacity WAN services or a 10G link into your core switch, such as the SFP+ uplinks on the VigorSwitch PQ2300XB.

Is it rack-mountable?

Yes — a rackmount kit ships in the box, along with an RJ-45 to RS-232 console adapter, serial cable, Cat 5e cable and IEC C13 power cord.

Is this overkill for a small office?

Probably — the 3912 is aimed at bandwidth-demanding, multi-WAN enterprise networks. For a typical SME site, look at the Vigor 2928 or 2962 first.
