Performance is delivered by Fortinet's SPU NP7 network processor, which works inline with FortiOS to accelerate firewall and networking functions, and the ninth-generation SPU CP9 content processor, which works outside the traffic flow to accelerate content inspection.
The platform delivers 139 Gbps of firewall throughput, 14 Gbps of IPS throughput and 10.5 Gbps of Threat Protection throughput on an enterprise traffic mix, over 18x GE RJ45 ports, 8x GE SFP slots, 4x 10GE SFP+ slots and 4x 25GE SFP28 slots.

Hardware only or a bundle?
The hardware-only SKU is the appliance alone. The bundle SKUs add 1, 3 or 5 years of FortiCare Premium support plus either the FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection (UTP) or Enterprise Protection subscription, which most deployments need for ongoing IPS, antivirus and web/URL filtering updates.
600F vs 601F — what's different?
The 600F has no onboard SSD storage; the 601F adds 2x 240GB onboard SSD storage. The 600F weighs 15.6 lbs (7.3 kg) with average/maximum power consumption of 169 W / 255 W; the 601F weighs 16.2 lbs (7.5 kg) and draws 174 W / 260 W. Firewall, IPS, NGFW and Threat Protection throughput are the same across both models.
How do I size the right model?
Check the enterprise-mix throughput figures (139 Gbps firewall, 14 Gbps IPS, 10.5 Gbps Threat Protection) against your expected inspected traffic, and the capacity figures — 8 million concurrent TCP sessions, 550,000 new sessions per second and 10,000 firewall policies — against session counts and policy complexity.
