The TP-Link SG108PE is an eight-port Gigabit smart PoE switch — the middle child of TP-Link's Easy Smart PoE family, sitting between the five-port SG105PE and the sixteen-port SG1016PE. It combines Gigabit wire speed with Power over Ethernet and simple browser-based management.

Eight ports is the sweet spot for many small offices and retail sites: enough powered connections for a handful of access points, IP cameras or IP phones, with data ports left over for the router uplink and local wired devices — all controlled from a straightforward web interface rather than left to run blind.

Smart or unmanaged — which do I need?

Choose smart when you want visibility and control — the web interface — rather than a plug-and-play black box. If you will never log in to it, an unmanaged PoE switch costs less.

What can it power?

Standards-based PoE devices such as wireless access points, IP cameras and IP phones connect and receive power over the same network cable.

Does it need a controller?

No — it is managed directly from its own web interface. For controller-based multi-site management, look at TP-Link's Omada SG2xxx series instead.
