The SM311LM is a TP-Link SFP fibre transceiver — the pluggable module that puts a fibre uplink onto any switch with a spare SFP slot. Fibre carries the link where copper cannot: longer distances, between buildings, and through electrically noisy environments.

It fits the SFP slots on switches such as the Omada SG3452, and partners the MC220L media converter where the far end of the run terminates on copper-only equipment. Fibre modules must match the cable type and distance of the run — tell us both and we will confirm this is the right transceiver (and its sibling the TL-SM311LS is the alternative) before you order.

When do I need a fibre module?

Whenever a link runs further than copper allows, crosses between buildings, or needs immunity from electrical interference — the fibre carries the distance and the SFP module presents it to the switch as an ordinary port.

SM311LM or TL-SM311LS?

The two siblings suit different fibre types and distances. Tell us whether your fibre is multi-mode or single-mode and how long the run is, and we will specify the correct module for each end.

Do I need a module at both ends?

Yes — a matching module in the switch (or media converter) at each end of the fibre completes the link.
