The 624F is designed to be managed through FortiLink, Fortinet's proprietary protocol that links a FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall to FortiSwitch hardware. FortiLink turns the switch into a logical extension of the FortiGate, so network security and access-layer switching functions are both handled from a single interface, with centralized VLAN configuration, software upgrades and PoE control across every managed switch.
Through FortiLink, the 624F also gains basic Network Access Control (NAC) capability — profiling and securely onboarding devices as they connect, with automated segmentation and microsegmentation of IoT devices, quarantine for compromised endpoints, and virtual patching against emerging threats.

How is the FortiSwitch 624F managed?
Through FortiLink, connected to a FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall. This gives centralized VLAN configuration, software upgrades, PoE control, link aggregation and spanning tree management, LLDP/MED and IGMP snooping across all FortiLink-managed switches from a single console — with FortiGate handling Layer 3 routing, virtual domains and UTM features such as firewall, IPS, AV and application control on the switch's behalf.
What's the difference between FortiCare Premium and Elite support?
Both are paid support tiers for the 624F, available in 1, 3 or 5 year terms. Elite is priced above Premium at every term length, reflecting an enhanced service level; full SLA details are confirmed at quotation.
Does the 624F support PoE?
No — this model has no PoE ports. For Power over Ethernet on the same 24-port/4-uplink layout, choose the FortiSwitch 624F-FPOE, which adds 24x 802.3af/at/bt type 4 PoE ports with a 1440W power budget.
