The Grandstream GMD1208 is a desktop wireless microphone for the GVC video conferencing systems — audio pickup that sits on the table where people actually speak, instead of at the screen where the camera happens to be.

Rooms fail on audio before they fail on video. A camera at one end of a long table sees everyone; its microphones do not hear everyone. The people nearest the screen dominate, the far end mumbles, and remote participants give up. Moving the microphone to the middle of the table fixes the single most common complaint about meeting rooms — and doing it wirelessly means no cable run across the table to snag, tape down or trip on.

Do I need it?

If everyone sits within the endpoint's built-in pickup — roughly a small-to-medium table — no. If people at the far end have to raise their voices, yes, and it is a far cheaper fix than a bigger endpoint.
