Grandstream GXW4248 V2 Analog FXS IP Gateway- 48 Port

The Grandstream GXW4248 V2 is the highest-density gateway in the GXW4200 V2 range: 48 analogue FXS ports in one rack unit, connecting a whole building's worth of analogue phones and fax machines to a VoIP platform.

At this density the cabling decides the install, which is why the 4248 uses two 50-pin Telco connectors rather than 48 individual jacks. Both cables land straight on the punch-down block the building already has, and 48 extensions come up at once.

Each port is an independent analogue extension. Registered to a PBX or an ITSP, the handset on the other end keeps its dial tone, its ring and its habits — only the platform behind it changes.

Frequently asked questions

Are there RJ11 jacks as well?

The 48-port model is built around its two 50-pin Telco connectors — that is how 48 lines are meant to be terminated. If you need to patch devices individually with RJ11 leads, the 24-port GXW4224 V2 is the better shape, or use a Telco-to-RJ11 breakout harness.

Will my existing analogue phones just work?

Yes. An FXS port supplies line voltage, dial tone and ring current exactly as an analogue exchange line does, so the handset behaves normally.

Do fax machines actually work over this?

It supports T.38 fax relay, which carries the fax as data rather than pushing fax tones through a voice codec. Your provider or PBX has to support T.38 at the other end too.

How many ports do I actually need?

One per analogue device, not per user — handsets, fax machines, lift phones, door entry panels and alarm diallers all count. Leave headroom; buildings usually have more analogue devices than the plan says.

Can I split the ports across different SIP accounts?

Yes. Each port registers independently, so ports can belong to different extensions, departments or providers.

One 48-port or two 24-port gateways?

One unit is cheaper per port and simpler to manage. Two are worth it when the analogue cabling terminates in two different places, or when you want the estate split across two failure domains.
