This is a spare worth holding. A GXW4224 carries twenty-four analogue devices — handsets, fax machines, lift phones, door entry panels, alarm diallers. If this adapter fails, all of them go down at once, and the ones that matter most are exactly the ones nobody rings to report. A lift phone can be dead for a week before anyone finds out.

Use the correct adapter. Voltage and polarity vary across the Grandstream range, and a gateway carrying two dozen lines is not the place to improvise.

Can I use any adapter of the same size?

Better not to. Voltage and polarity differ across the range and the wrong supply can damage the gateway.

Should the gateway be on a UPS?

On a site with emergency or lift lines, it is worth considering. A spare adapter covers a failure; a UPS covers a power cut, and they are different problems.
