The Software UCM base licence is Grandstream's UCM phone system as software: the same PBX that ships in the UCM appliances, licensed to run on your own server or virtual machine, starting at 100 extensions and 32 concurrent calls.
This is the UCM without the box. Organisations that already run a virtualised infrastructure — VMware, Hyper-V, a private cloud — often do not want another appliance in the rack; they want the PBX as one more VM with their own snapshots, backups and failover underneath it. That is exactly what this licence is for. The features are the UCM feature set: extensions, trunks, IVR, queues, conferencing and the Wave apps.
When the site outgrows the base capacity, the +100 extension and +500 extension upgrade packages stack on top — no reinstall, no migration.

Frequently asked questions
Software UCM or a UCM appliance?
If you already run virtualisation well, software — the PBX inherits your backup and failover. If you do not, the appliance is simpler: plug it in and it is the phone system. Same features either way.
What happens when we outgrow 100 extensions?
Stack an upgrade package — +100/+24 or +500/+96 — onto the same installation. No reinstall, no migration, no downtime beyond applying the licence.
Does it include the Wave apps?
Yes — desktop, mobile and web clients are part of the UCM platform.
