TP-Link EAP668 Outdoor WiFi 6 Access Point

The EAP668-Outdoor is the flagship outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access point in the Omada range: AX3600 speeds (1148 Mbps on 2.4 GHz + 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz), capacity for up to 1,024 devices, and four high-gain 6 dBi detachable N-type omni antennas. It is built for stadium concourses, holiday parks, marinas and campus grounds where outdoor Wi-Fi has to carry serious load.

The interface list reads like a small switch: a 10G SFP+ slot, a 2.5G PoE-in port and a Gigabit PoE-out port that can power a downstream device such as a camera. It accepts 802.3at/bt PoE from a switch like the Omada SX3206HPP, and the IP68 enclosure with 6 kV lightning protection is rated from -40 °C to +70 °C. Omada Mesh, seamless roaming, Bluetooth and centralised cloud management complete the picture — add an OC300 controller for larger sites.

Frequently asked questions

How should I power it?

Feed the 2.5G PoE-in port from an 802.3at or 802.3bt switch port. Note that using the PoE-out feature to power a downstream device draws on the same supply, so budget the feeding port accordingly — 802.3bt input is the safe choice for a fully loaded unit.

What is the 10G SFP+ slot for?

Fibre backhaul — useful when the AP sits a long way from the comms room or aggregates traffic from its PoE-out device as well as its own radios.

Is it really weatherproof?

Yes — IP68 rated (a step above the usual IP65/67 outdoor APs), with 6 kV lightning protection and a -40 °C to +70 °C operating range.

Does it need a controller?

No, but sites deploying an AP of this class usually run several — Omada SDN with an OC200/OC300 gives one dashboard, mesh management and seamless roaming across them all.
