Draytek Vigor166 Modem for xDSL and G.Fast

The Vigor 166 is a G.fast modem/router delivering fibre-like DSL speeds of up to 1.3 Gbps over a standard phone line. The built-in modem is backward compatible with VDSL2 profile 35b supervectoring and ADSL2+, so one unit covers everything from legacy ADSL circuits to the fastest G.fast services.

Most installations use it as a pure modem in front of a firewall or VPN router — it is the classic partner for a Vigor Ethernet-WAN router such as the Vigor 2927 or Vigor 2962. With 1 × RJ-11 and 2 × Gigabit LAN ports it can also be configured as a small but capable router in its own right, with an SPI firewall and content filtering by URL keyword and web feature.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use it as a modem or a router?

Both work. As a modem it hands the public IP to a router of your choice — the usual choice for business networks with a Vigor VPN router behind it. In router mode it adds an SPI firewall and content filtering for simple installations.

Will it work on my existing VDSL/FTTC line?

Yes — the modem is backward compatible with VDSL2 including profile 35b supervectoring, and with ADSL2+, so it covers current UK FTTC circuits as well as G.fast.

What is the difference between the Vigor 166 and Vigor 167?

The Vigor 166 adds G.fast support with speeds up to 1.3 Gbps; the Vigor 167 is a VDSL2/ADSL2+ modem rated to 300 Mbps downstream. If your line is or will be G.fast, choose the 166.

Is a power supply included?

Yes — the box contains the modem/router, power supply, Ethernet cable and quick start guide.
