Grandstream GSC3510 SIP Intercom Speaker and Microphone

The Grandstream GSC3510 is a two-way full-duplex SIP intercom speaker and microphone: an 8 W high-fidelity HD speaker with three directional microphones in a multichannel array giving 4.2 metres of pickup.

Full duplex is the part that matters. Both ends can talk at once, as on a phone call, rather than taking turns like a walkie-talkie. That is the difference between an intercom people actually use and one they shout at.

Connectivity is unusually generous for a speaker: a 100 Mbps port with PoE and PoE+, dual-band 2.4G and 5G Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a multi-purpose input port. The Wi-Fi is the useful one — it can go where there is no network socket, which is most of the awkward places an intercom is wanted.

Frequently asked questions

What does full duplex change?

Both ends can speak at the same time, as on a phone call. Half-duplex intercoms cut one side off while the other talks, which is why people end up shouting and repeating themselves.

GSC3510 or GSC3505?

Whether anyone needs to answer. The GSC3505 is one-way — announcements out, nothing back. The GSC3510 has microphones and holds a conversation. If it is a call point or an assistance button, only the 3510 will do.

Do I have to use the Wi-Fi?

No — the network port with PoE is the tidier install where a cable exists. The Wi-Fi is there for the positions where it does not, which is often exactly where an intercom is wanted.

Is 8 W loud enough?

For an indoor area, yes. For a workshop with machinery running, look at the 15 W GSC3516; for a yard or a loading bay, the 50 W GSC3518HS horn.

Do I need a Grandstream phone system?

No — it is a standards-based SIP device and will register to most systems.
