Grandstream GWN7002 Multi-WAN Gigabit VPN Router

The Grandstream GWN7002 sits in the middle of the multi-WAN VPN router range: four Gigabit ports, two 2.5G SFP ports and two PoE output ports, with up to 2.2 Gbps of throughput, a built-in firewall and VPN.

The 2.5G SFP ports are why you would choose this over the GWN7001. A business with a fibre connection faster than a gigabit, or a fibre run to another building, has nowhere to plug it on a Gigabit-only router. These two ports are that somewhere.

Like the rest of the range, it carries an embedded controller for up to 150 GWN access points — no separate appliance, no licence — and multi-WAN with load balancing and failover across two or more internet connections.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the 2.5G SFP ports?

Only if you have something faster than a gigabit to plug into them — a fibre internet connection above 1 Gbps, or a fibre run to another building. If not, the GWN7001 gives you more copper ports for less.

Do I need a separate Wi-Fi controller?

No. This router manages up to 150 GWN access points itself, with no licence and no appliance to buy. When comparing against other brands, put their controller cost in the column.

What are the PoE output ports for?

Powering a device directly from the router — an access point in the same room, or a phone — without adding a PoE switch. Two ports, so it is a convenience rather than a switch replacement.

GWN7002 or GWN7003?

Copper ports. Both have the same two SFP ports and two PoE outputs; the 7003 has nine Gigabit ports against this one's four. If a switch is going behind the router anyway, four is usually plenty.

Is the VPN licensed separately?

No. VPN, firewall, DPI and content filtering are part of the router.
