Grandstream GRP2601P Carrier-Grade IP Phone

The Grandstream GRP2601P is the entry-level GRP desk phone with Power over Ethernet built in. It is the same two-line, two-account handset as the plain GRP2601 — the difference is that it draws its power from the switch port rather than from a plug under the desk.

At the volumes this phone is bought in, that difference matters more than the specification does. One cable per position instead of two means no adapter to lose, no spare socket to find and no wall wart to be kicked out by a cleaner. On a hundred-desk rollout it is a hundred fewer things to unpack.

The quiet advantage is resilience. A mains-powered phone estate needs a UPS at every desk to survive a power cut. A PoE estate needs one UPS in the comms cabinet — put the switch on it and every phone in the building stays up.

Frequently asked questions

Does it come with a power supply?

No — it is powered over Ethernet, which is the whole point of the P variant. If the switch port does not supply PoE, add an injector or order the plain GRP2601 with its mains adapter instead.

How much power does it draw from the switch?

It is an 802.3af Class 1 device, so under 4W. A modest 24-port PoE switch will carry a full floor of these without coming near its power budget.

Can I plug a PC into the phone?

Yes. There are two 10/100 ports, so one drop feeds both. Note the PC port does not pass PoE onward — the computer still needs its own power.

Is 10/100 a problem for the PC behind it?

It can be. Voice never needs more than 10/100, but a PC sharing that drop is capped at 100 Mbps. If that matters, look at the GRP2602G or GRP2603P, which have Gigabit ports.

How is it different from the GRP2602P?

Accounts. The GRP2601P carries two SIP accounts, the GRP2602P four. Both are two-line phones with the same body, ports and PoE. If nobody will ever register more than two numbers, the 2601P is the cheaper answer.

Can I provision hundreds of these remotely?

Yes. GDMS and TR-069 with encrypted provisioning and secure boot are what make the GRP range workable at estate scale — the phones can be configured before they are unboxed.
