Grandstream GRP2601W Carrier-Grade IP Phone with WiFi

The Grandstream GRP2601W is the entry-level GRP desk phone with Wi-Fi built in. It is the answer to a specific problem: a desk that needs a phone and has no data cable — a listed building where nobody will let you chase a wall, a retrofitted office, a pop-up desk, a home worker with one socket behind the router.

Everything else is the standard GRP2601: two SIP accounts across two lines, a 2.21-inch backlit LCD, four programmable soft keys and the same secure boot, encrypted configuration and GDMS zero-touch provisioning as the rest of the carrier-grade range. The Ethernet ports are still there, so a position that gets cabled later does not need a different phone.

Read the Wi-Fi spec before you commit. This model is single-band — 2.4 GHz only. That is the crowded band, shared with every other 2.4 GHz device in the building and in the buildings next door. Voice is small and tolerant, but it is not immune to congestion. On a busy site, the dual-band GRP2602W can sit on 5 GHz instead, and a cable still beats both.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Wi-Fi dual-band?

No. The GRP2601W is single-band, 2.4 GHz only. If you need 5 GHz to get away from congestion, the GRP2602W is the dual-band model in this family.

Will call quality be as good as over a cable?

On a quiet, well-covered network, yes — voice needs very little bandwidth. On a congested 2.4 GHz estate you may hear it in the form of clipped words rather than dropped calls. If the desk can be cabled, cable it.

Does it still have Ethernet ports?

Yes, two 10/100 ports. Wi-Fi is an option on this phone, not a replacement for the sockets, so a desk that gets cabled next year keeps the same handset.

Does it support PoE?

No. PoE is the GRP2601P. This is the Wi-Fi variant and takes mains power — which is usually fine, because a desk with no data cable almost always has a plug socket.

Where should the access point be?

Within clear reach of the desk, ideally not behind a metal cabinet or a solid wall. A desk phone sits low and does not move, so a survey reading taken at head height in the corridor is not the reading that matters.

Can I provision it remotely like the wired models?

Yes, once it is on the network. GDMS and TR-069 both work, with encrypted provisioning and secure boot. The Wi-Fi credentials are the one thing that has to reach the phone first.
