Grandstream GRP2601 Essential IP Phone
The Grandstream GRP2601 is an entry-level desk phone for organisations that need a dependable extension on every position without paying for features nobody will use. Two SIP accounts run across two lines, a 2.41-inch backlit LCD shows caller and menu detail, and twin 10/100 Ethernet ports let a PC share the same wall socket as the phone.
Although it sits at the bottom of the range, the GRP2601 belongs to Grandstream's carrier-grade GRP family, so it inherits the same secure boot, encrypted configuration and GDMS zero-touch provisioning used on far more expensive handsets. That combination suits service providers shipping hundreds of seats at a time, as well as offices, classrooms and back-of-house areas where a phone simply has to work and keep working. Note that this base model is mains-powered; specify the GRP2601P variant if the position needs Power over Ethernet.
Ideal for
- Hot desks and shared workstations where cost per seat matters
- Warehouse offices, stockrooms and goods-in positions
- Classrooms, staff rooms and site huts
- Secondary or overflow phones alongside a main reception handset
- ITSP and hosted-voice providers deploying at volume
- Budget-led office refreshes replacing ageing analogue extensions
Key features
- Two SIP accounts across two lines — run a direct dial and a shared group number on the same phone
- 2.41-inch 132 × 48 LCD — enough space for caller ID, status and menu navigation without clutter
- 5-way audio conferencing — pull colleagues into a call without booking a bridge
- Dual 10/100 Ethernet ports — daisy-chain a desktop PC and save a network drop per desk
- Four programmable soft keys — XML context-sensitive keys that change with what the phone is doing
- Eight dedicated function keys — message, transfer, headset, mute, redial, speakerphone and volume always in the same place
- HD wideband audio — G.722 and Opus support for noticeably clearer speech than legacy narrowband
- RJ9 headset jack with EHS — works with Plantronics, Jabra and Sennheiser electronic hook switch headsets
- Secure boot and dual firmware images — a failed upgrade will not leave a desk without a phone
- GDMS cloud provisioning — stage, configure and update whole fleets remotely

Frequently asked questions
Does the GRP2601 support Power over Ethernet?
Not this model. The standard GRP2601 is powered by its included 5VDC adapter. If the desk has no spare socket, order the GRP2601P, which is the same phone with integrated 802.3af PoE.
Can I plug my computer into the phone?
Yes. The GRP2601 has two switched 10/100 Ethernet ports, so the phone takes the wall drop and the PC connects through the second port. Bear in mind this caps that desk at 100 Mbps.
How many people can join a conference on the handset?
The GRP2601 supports 5-way audio conferencing, so you can add several parties without involving the PBX conference bridge.
Will it work with my existing headsets?
The RJ9 jack supports electronic hook switch operation with Plantronics, Jabra and Sennheiser models, so you can answer and end calls from the headset itself.
Is it suitable for a large rollout?
Yes. GDMS and TR-069 provisioning with encrypted XML configuration files make the GRP2601 straightforward to deploy in volume, which is why it is popular with hosted voice providers.
