Grandstream UCM6302 IP PBX

The Grandstream UCM6302 is the model most small and medium businesses actually end up buying. It handles up to 1,000 users and 150 concurrent calls, and it has two FXS and two FXO ports — enough to keep two analogue lines and two analogue devices in service without adding a gateway.

That second pair matters more often than the headline numbers. A typical site has one alarm or lift line and one fax, or two exchange lines it is not ready to give up. The 6302 covers that; the 6301 does not.

Calls, voicemail, IVR menus, call queues, conferencing and the Wave app for desktop and mobile all run on the box. There is no per-seat licence for the core telephony.

Frequently asked questions

1,000 users but only 150 calls — which number matters?

Concurrent calls, almost always. A business with 300 staff rarely has more than 60 calls up at once. Size on the busiest ten minutes of your week, not on headcount.

What is the difference between FXS and FXO?

FXO takes a line in — plug an analogue exchange line into it. FXS gives a line out — plug an analogue phone, fax or door phone into it. The UCM6302 has two of each.

6301 or 6302?

Count the analogue devices and lines. One of each, and the 6301 does the job. Two of either — a lift phone plus a fax, or two exchange lines — and the 6302 saves you buying a separate gateway. The extra call capacity comes along with it.

What happens in a power cut?

The analogue ports have lifeline capability, so an analogue handset can still reach the analogue line. IP phones need power and network like anything else.

Do I still need a SIP provider?

Yes — the UCM is the phone system, not the phone lines. It connects to your SIP trunk provider, or to analogue lines through the FXO ports, or both.

Is there a licence cost?

Not for core telephony — users, calls, voicemail, IVR and queues are included. Optional extras such as UCM Remote Connect for VPN-free remote working are separate subscriptions.
