Grandstream GWN7302 Wi-Fi 6 PtP/PtMP Fixed Wireless Bridge

The Grandstream GWN7302 is a fixed wireless bridge, not an access point. Its job is to carry a network between two buildings that a cable cannot reach — across a road, over a river, to a barn, to a portacabin at the far end of a site — at up to 3.1 miles, around 5 km.

It uses a single-band 5 GHz 802.11ax radio with 2×2:2 MIMO, two 13.5 dBi internal directional antennas and TDMA scheduling, giving up to 2.4 Gbps of wireless throughput. It runs point-to-point between a pair of units, or point-to-multipoint with one hub feeding several remote sites.

Buy them in pairs, and mind the line of sight. One bridge is half a link. And these are directional units: they need to see each other, with clearance around the straight line between them. A hedge that grows two metres over a summer is a genuine cause of link failure — mount high, and survey before you commit to a mast position.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need one or two?

Two for a point-to-point link — one at each end. Point-to-multipoint uses one as the hub and one at each remote site, so a hub plus three remote buildings is four units.

Will it really do 5 km?

With clear line of sight and correct alignment. Any obstruction in the path costs range, and trees are the usual culprit because they grow. Survey the path, mount high, and leave clearance around the straight line rather than just at the ends.

Is 2.4 Gbps realistic across a long link?

That is the radio's peak, not what a 5 km link delivers in the rain. Even at a fraction of it a bridge like this carries an entire small building comfortably — the throughput is rarely the limiting factor; the path is.

Can it power something at the far end?

Yes. The Gigabit PoE output port feeds a camera, an access point or a small switch at the remote site, which is often exactly what you want at the end of a link.

Can I use an access point instead?

Over a short distance, sometimes — the GWN7670LR bridges with a directional antenna. For a real long link with stable throughput, a purpose-built bridge with 13.5 dBi antennas and TDMA is the right tool.

Does it need a licence?

It operates in the licence-exempt 5 GHz band. Channel and power rules vary by country, so set the region correctly — the unit will keep you within the local limits once it is told where it is.
