Grandstream GWN7670LR Long-Range Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Access Point/Bridge

The Grandstream GWN7670LR is an outdoor long-range Wi-Fi 7 access point: dual-band 2×2:2 MIMO with DL/UL OFDMA, up to 3.6 Gbps for up to 256 concurrent clients, a quoted 350-metre range and an IP66 weatherproof body.

What makes it unusual is that it can be two different products. Its internal antennas are directional, but it can switch to external omnidirectional antennas instead — so the same unit either throws coverage down a long yard or spreads it evenly around a pole, without buying a different model. Combined with a directional antenna it also works as a long-range wireless bridge.

Decide which job it is doing before you mount it. A directional unit aimed at a car park is not the same install as an omnidirectional one on a pole in the middle of it, and remounting an outdoor access point is not a five-minute job. Work out the shape of the area first; the antenna choice follows from that.

Frequently asked questions

Directional or omnidirectional — which do I need?

Directional if you are covering a long thin area or aiming at a specific building; omnidirectional if the unit sits in the middle of an open space. The GWN7670LR switches between internal directional and external omni antennas, so the decision is a configuration and mounting one rather than a different purchase.

Can I use it as a wireless bridge?

Yes, with a directional antenna, to link two points without trenching a cable. For a dedicated long link, the GWN7302 is the purpose-built bridge and reaches considerably further.

Will it really reach 350 metres?

With line of sight and nothing in between. Trees, vehicles and buildings all reduce it, and the client has to be able to answer from that distance — a phone in a pocket has a much weaker transmitter than a pole-mounted access point.

What is the SFP port for?

Fibre. Copper Ethernet stops at 100 metres; if the access point is further than that from the cabinet, fibre into the 2.5G SFP port solves it without a converter box outdoors.

Will my current devices see any Wi-Fi 7 benefit?

Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 clients connect normally and benefit from the radio and scheduling, but multi-link operation needs Wi-Fi 7 clients. Outdoors, coverage almost always matters more than the standard anyway.

How do I power it?

PoE+ over the 2.5 Gigabit port, which keeps it to one cable up the pole. If you use the SFP port for data, the unit still needs power from somewhere.
