Grandstream GWN7710R 6-Port Outdoor L2 Lite Managed Switch

The Grandstream GWN7710R is a managed switch built to live outside. IP66 waterproof and dustproof, rated from −40 to 60°C, with five Gigabit ports and a 2.5G SFP port, and mounting for a pole, a DIN rail or a wall.

Four of the Gigabit ports supply passive PoE++ output — up to 60 W on port 1 and up to 30 W on ports 2 to 4 — while the remaining Gigabit port takes PoE++ in. That last detail is the point: the whole switch, and everything hanging off it, can be powered from one cable coming out of the building. No outdoor mains, no separate enclosure, no electrician.

Everything it powers is powered by what feeds it. The 60 W and 30 W figures are what each port can pass, not a promise about the total — what the switch has to give depends on what arrives on the input port. Size the source first, then distribute.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need mains power outdoors?

No, and that is the main reason to choose it. One of its Gigabit ports takes PoE++ in, so a single cable from the building powers the switch and, through it, the devices on its PoE ports.

How much power can it pass on?

Up to 60 W on port 1 and up to 30 W on ports 2 to 4 — but only as much in total as arrives on its input. Work out the source first: a 60 W injector cannot feed four 30 W cameras.

What is the PoE Watchdog for?

It power-cycles a device that has stopped responding. On a pole-mounted camera, that turns a site visit into a five-second reboot, which over a year of outdoor kit is worth real money.

Is it really managed?

Yes — VLANs globally or per port, DSCP and 802.1p QoS, bandwidth control and storm control, through its own web interface, GWN Manager or GDMS Networking.

How is it mounted?

Pole, DIN rail or wall. Fix it somewhere rigid, and dress the cables so water runs away from the glands rather than into them — the enclosure is IP66, but the installation still has to be.

What does the SFP port take?

A 2.5G module, with a matching module at the far end. That is usually how the switch gets back to the building when the run is longer than copper allows.
