Long range and high capacity are usually a trade-off; this unit is bought when you need both. A festival field, a stadium concourse, a large yard with dozens of handhelds, a campus quad at lunchtime — places where the area is big and the crowd is real.

Do I need this or the GWN7660ELR?

Count the people, not the metres. Both cover 300 metres. This one carries 512 clients on a 4×4:4 radio; the 7660ELR carries 256 on 2×2:2. If the area is large but quiet, buy the cheaper one.

Will one client see 6 Gbps?

No. That is both radios' theoretical peaks added together. A phone or a handheld scanner sees a small fraction. The figure describes total capacity, not any one connection.

Will it really reach 300 metres?

With line of sight and nothing in between. In a yard full of lorries or a site with trees, expect less — and remember the client has to answer from that distance too.

What power does it need?

PoE, and a generous supply of it — a 4×4:4 outdoor access point is not a low-draw device. Check the injector or switch budget rather than assuming any PoE port will do.

Can it be mounted on a pole?

Yes, and that is the usual approach. Fix it to something rigid, keep line of sight to the area you are covering, and dress the cable so rain runs away from the gland rather than into it.

Can it mesh to other access points?

Yes. That is often how outdoor coverage is chained across a site where no further cabling is possible — but each hop costs throughput, so cable the first unit properly.
