ER605TP-Link Omada ER605 Wired Router
The ER605 is the entry point to Omada gateways and one of the best-value VPN routers in small business networking. Its five Gigabit ports are refreshingly flexible — one fixed WAN, two fixed LAN and two configurable WAN/LAN — so a second broadband line or leased-line backup slots in without new hardware, and the USB 2.0 port takes an LTE dongle as a further fallback.
VPN capacity is generous for the price: up to 20 IPSec tunnels plus 16 each of L2TP, PPTP and OpenVPN, running simultaneously — enough to hub a handful of branches and a team of home workers. An SPI firewall, DoS defence and 4 kV lightning protection guard the perimeter. Pair it with an OC200 controller and a PoE switch such as the SG2210P for a complete managed stack; the ER7206 adds an SFP WAN and more grunt when you outgrow it.

Frequently asked questions
Does it have Wi-Fi?
No — the ER605 is a wired gateway by design. Add Omada access points for wireless; the router, switch and APs then share one management plane.
How many VPN tunnels can it run?
Up to 20 IPSec, 16 L2TP, 16 PPTP and 16 OpenVPN tunnels simultaneously — ample for branch links and remote staff at this price point.
Can I use 4G as a backup WAN?
Yes — the USB 2.0 port supports a USB LTE dongle, alongside load balancing across the wired WAN ports.
Does it need an Omada controller?
No — it configures standalone via its web UI. A controller adds centralised cloud management across the whole Omada estate.
