TP-Link Omada ER706W W-Fi Router

The ER706W rolls router, VPN concentrator and Wi-Fi 6 access point into one Omada gateway: AX3000 wireless (2402 Mbps on 5 GHz + 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz), a Gigabit SFP slot for fibre, five Gigabit RJ45 ports, and load balancing across up to five WAN links to sweat every line the site has.

Security is business-grade — SSL, IPSec, GRE, WireGuard, PPTP, L2TP and OpenVPN tunnels, plus DoS defence, IP/MAC/URL filtering, DPI and IPS/IDS. It meshes with Omada access points such as the EAP653 to extend Wi-Fi without extra cabling, and centralised cloud management via an OC200 controller puts the whole network on one dashboard. Frequently asked questions

Do I still need separate access points?

For a small office the built-in AX3000 radio may be enough. Larger floors add Omada EAPs, which can mesh with the ER706W wirelessly and roam seamlessly under one SSID.

How does multi-WAN work here?

Up to five ports can act as WAN with load balancing spreading traffic across them — useful for pairing FTTP with a backup line, or aggregating two broadband circuits.

Which VPN protocols are supported?

SSL, IPSec, GRE, WireGuard, PPTP, L2TP and OpenVPN — covering modern site-to-site links and virtually any remote-access client.

Does it need a controller?

No — it manages standalone via web UI or the Omada app; a controller adds estate-wide cloud management.
