The Netgear GS116 is a 16-port Gigabit unmanaged switch from the ProSAFE family — the simplest way to add sixteen full-speed wired ports to a small office, studio or shop back office. There is nothing to configure: plug it in, patch in your devices and every port negotiates its own best speed automatically.

It sits on a desk on the supplied rubber feet or goes on the wall with the included mounting kit, so it is as happy under a counter as in a comms cupboard. If you also want to power access points or IP cameras over the same cables, look at the GS116LP — the PoE version of this switch — or pair it with a ceiling access point such as the TP-Link EAP225 for wireless coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a managed or unmanaged switch?

Unmanaged. There is no web interface, no VLAN configuration and no monitoring — it simply forwards traffic at Gigabit speed. That makes it ideal where you want more ports with zero admin; if you need VLANs or traffic control, step up to a smart-managed model such as the GS752TP.

Does it support PoE?

No. The GS116 provides data only. If you need to power access points, cameras or IP phones over Ethernet, choose the GS116LP, which is the PoE variant of this switch.

Can it go in a rack?

It is a desktop-format switch: it ships with rubber feet for shelf or desk use and a wall-mount kit. For a 19-inch rack, look at Netgear's rack-format models such as the GS728TP or GS752TP.

Is a power supply included?

Yes — the AC adapter is in the box, along with the installation guide.
