Grandstream GWN7660LR Wi-Fi 6 Long Range Access Point

The Grandstream GWN7660LR is the everyday outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access point: up to 250 metres of coverage, up to 256 clients, in an IP66 weatherproof casing. It is the model for the yard, the terrace or the outbuilding that needs proper Wi-Fi without the cost of the top outdoor unit.

IP66 is the number to look at. It means dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets — so it is rated for permanent mounting on a wall or a pole, through British weather, not for a sheltered porch.

It carries dual-band 2×2:2 MU-MIMO, 1.77 Gbps of aggregate wireless throughput and two Gigabit Ethernet ports, and manages alongside the indoor access points as one network — people walking out of the building keep their connection.

Frequently asked questions

What does IP66 mean here?

The first 6 means dust-tight. The second means protected against powerful water jets from any direction. In practice: it can be mounted on an exposed wall or pole and left there. It is not rated for immersion, so do not mount it where it could sit under water.

Will it really cover 250 metres?

Outdoors with clear line of sight, roughly. Trees, buildings, vehicles and weather all take their share, and the phone in someone's pocket usually gives up before the access point does.

Can people keep their connection walking outside?

Yes — outdoor and indoor GWN access points manage as one network, so a device roams between them without dropping the session.

How is it powered?

Over Ethernet, which is what makes outdoor mounting practical — one cable to the mounting point, no mains supply needed there.

GWN7660LR or GWN7664LR?

Reach and density. This covers 250 m and 256 clients; the 7664LR covers 300 m and 750 clients with 4×4:4 MU-MIMO. For a busy outdoor space or a longer run, step up.

Do I need lightning protection?

For a pole or roof mount, discuss it with your installer — surge protection on the Ethernet run is normal practice for exposed outdoor equipment.
