Grandstream GWN7660 Wi-Fi 6 Access Point

The Grandstream GWN7660 is the everyday Wi-Fi 6 access point: dual-band 2×2:2 MU-MIMO with DL/UL OFDMA, 500+ concurrent clients and coverage up to 175 metres. For most offices this is the right amount of access point — modern enough to cope with a floor full of phones and laptops, without paying for a lecture-theatre radio.

OFDMA is the feature that earns its keep. It lets the access point serve several small transmissions in one go instead of one at a time, which is precisely the traffic pattern of a room full of phones checking email — and precisely where older access points fall down.

There is no controller to buy. One access point takes the controller role for the site, or you run them free from GWN.Cloud.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wi-Fi 6 worth it if my devices are older?

Partly. Older devices connect normally and see little change, but every Wi-Fi 6 device on the network is handled more efficiently, which frees airtime for the rest. Device populations turn over quickly, so it also buys you time.

What does OFDMA do in plain terms?

It lets the access point serve several small transmissions in a single slot instead of queueing them. A room full of phones sending short bursts is exactly that pattern, which is why it makes more difference than headline speed.

GWN7660 or GWN7664?

Density. Both are Wi-Fi 6 with the same 175 m figure; the 7664 holds far more devices. In a normal office the 7660 is enough — the 7664 is for rooms that genuinely fill up.

How many access points do I need?

Almost always more than the coverage figure suggests, because capacity runs out before coverage does. Plan by rooms, walls and device count.

Do I need a separate controller?

No. One of the access points takes the controller role, or you manage them free from GWN.Cloud. No licence, no appliance.
