Grandstream GWN7665 802.11ax Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E Access Point

The Grandstream GWN7665 is the Wi-Fi 6E tri-band access point: 2.4GHz, 5GHz and the 6GHz band. That third band is the whole point of it. 6GHz is new, wide and — for now — empty, so a device that can use it is not competing with every neighbouring network, microwave and Bluetooth speaker in the building.

It holds up to 256 concurrent clients and reaches up to 175 metres in open air. Note the client figure is lower than the GWN7664's: these two solve different problems. The 7664 is for rooms with a great many devices; the 7665 is for places where the airwaves themselves are the problem.

There is no controller to buy. One access point takes the controller role for the site, or you run them free from GWN.Cloud.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 6GHz band actually give me?

Clean air. 2.4GHz and 5GHz are shared with every other network nearby; 6GHz is newer, wider and largely unused, so devices that support it get more room and less interference. In a crowded building that is worth more than raw speed.

Will my current devices use it?

Only Wi-Fi 6E devices can use 6GHz — recent laptops and phones. Everything else connects on 2.4GHz or 5GHz as usual, and benefits indirectly because the newer devices have moved off those bands.

GWN7665 or GWN7664?

Different problems. Choose the 7664 when the room has a very large number of devices. Choose the 7665 when the airwaves are congested — a city-centre office block, a shared building, anywhere a scan shows thirty neighbouring networks.

Does 6GHz travel as far?

No — higher frequencies carry less well through walls. Treat 6GHz as an excellent band for the room the access point is in, not for the far end of the floor.

Do I need a separate controller?

No. One of the access points takes the controller role, or you manage them free from GWN.Cloud. No licence, no appliance.
