Grandstream GWN7801 8-Port Gigabit Network Switch with 2 SFP

The Grandstream GWN7801 is an 8-port Gigabit Layer 2+ managed switch with two SFP uplinks. It is a small switch with a full-size feature set — VLANs, QoS, link aggregation and proper security — which is exactly what a small office needs and almost never gets from the unmanaged box it usually buys instead.

It does not supply PoE. That is the difference between this and the GWN7801P, and it is the thing to check before ordering: if the phones, cameras or access points expect power from the network cable, you want the P.

Management is free, from its own web interface or through GWN.Cloud alongside the rest of the GWN range.

Frequently asked questions

Does it supply PoE?

No. This is the non-PoE model — devices plugged into it need their own power. For phones, cameras or access points, choose the GWN7801P.

What does Layer 2+ give me over an unmanaged switch?

VLANs to separate voice, CCTV, guest and office traffic; QoS so calls are not disrupted by a large file transfer; link aggregation; and the security features that let you keep an untrusted device off the rest of the network. On an unmanaged switch everything shares one flat network and you cannot see or control any of it.

Do I need the SFP uplinks?

Only if the run back to the main switch is long or crosses a building — fibre solves distance and electrical isolation. For a short copper run they will sit unused, and that is fine.

Is 8 ports enough?

Count everything that plugs in, including printers, cameras and access points, then leave a couple spare. If you are at seven already, buy the 16 or 24-port model — daisy-chaining small switches is how networks become hard to diagnose.

Is the management licensed?

No. It manages from its own web interface or free through GWN.Cloud.
