Grandstream GWN7806P 48-Port Gigabit Enterprise Layer 2+ Managed PoE Network Switch

The Grandstream GWN7806P is a 48-port Layer 2+ managed PoE switch: 48 Gigabit PoE+ ports, six 10G SFP+ uplinks, 216 Gbps of switching capacity and a 400 W power budget. It is the switch you put at the centre of a floor or a building when the cameras, access points and phones all need power as well as a network.

Read the power budget carefully — it is the number that catches people out. Each port can deliver up to 30 W, but the switch has 400 W to share across all 48. That is generous for phones and access points; it is not 48 × 30 W. If you are hanging heaters, PTZ cameras or Wi-Fi 6E access points off it, add up the real draw before you commit.

The six 10G SFP+ uplinks are what make it a core switch rather than an edge one. Forty-eight Gigabit ports can generate far more than a Gigabit of traffic; without fast uplinks the bottleneck simply moves to the cable going back to the server room.

Frequently asked questions

Can all 48 ports deliver 30 W at once?

No, and this is the most important thing on the page. Each port can deliver up to 30 W, but the switch shares a 400 W budget across all of them. Add up what your devices actually draw — desk phones are a few watts, access points more, PTZ cameras with heaters far more.

How do I work out the budget I need?

List the powered devices and their PoE class, add them up, then leave headroom for the next thing someone plugs in. If the total is close to 400 W, split the load across two switches rather than running at the limit.

Do I need the 10G uplinks?

If the switch connects back to a server room or another switch, yes. Forty-eight Gigabit ports can move far more than a Gigabit; a single Gigabit uplink would undo most of what you paid for.

What does Layer 2+ give me over an unmanaged switch?

VLANs to separate voice, CCTV, guest and office traffic; QoS so calls are not disrupted by a large file transfer; link aggregation; and the security features that let you keep an untrusted device off the rest of the network.

Is the management licensed?

No. It manages from its own web interface or free through GWN.Cloud, alongside the access points and routers.

Is it noisy?

It is a 48-port PoE switch — it has fans and belongs in a comms room or a cabinet, not in an office corner.
