Grandstream GWN7813P 24-Port Gigabit Enterprise Layer 3 Managed PoE Network Switch

The Grandstream GWN7813P is a 24-port Layer 3 managed PoE switch. The Layer 3 part is the reason to buy it: it can route between VLANs itself rather than sending every packet up to the router and back.

That matters once a site has several networks — office, voice, CCTV, guest, building systems — and they need to talk to each other. On a Layer 2 switch that traffic makes a round trip to the router, which becomes the bottleneck and the single point of failure. A Layer 3 switch keeps it local and at wire speed.

Twenty-four PoE ports power the phones, cameras and access points on the floor, and SFP uplinks carry the fibre back to the core. It manages from its own web interface or free through GWN.Cloud, alongside the rest of the GWN range.

Frequently asked questions

Do I actually need Layer 3?

Only if you have more than one VLAN and they need to talk to each other. One flat network, or VLANs that stay separate by design, will never use it — buy the Layer 2+ GWN7803 instead and save the difference.

What does routing on the switch change in practice?

Traffic between VLANs stays on the switch instead of travelling to the router and back. The router stops being the bottleneck for internal traffic, and a router reboot no longer cuts VLANs off from each other.

Does it replace my router?

No. It routes between your own networks. You still need a router or firewall for the internet connection, NAT and security at the edge.

How much PoE can it supply?

Per-port and total budgets are on the datasheet — the total is what matters, since it is shared across the ports. Add up your devices' real draw and leave headroom; if you are near the limit, split the load across two switches.

GWN7813P or GWN7813?

PoE. The P powers phones, cameras and access points down the network cable; the plain 7813 does not. If nothing on the floor needs power, the non-PoE model costs less.

Is the management licensed?

No. It manages from its own web interface or free through GWN.Cloud.
