Grandstream GWN7813 24-Port Gigabit Layer 3 Switch with 4 SFP

The Grandstream GWN7813 is a 24-port Gigabit Layer 3 managed switch with four SFP uplinks. The Layer 3 part is the reason to buy it: it routes between VLANs itself rather than sending every packet up to the router and back.

That matters once a site has several networks — office, voice, CCTV, guest, building systems — that need to talk to each other. On a Layer 2 switch that traffic makes a round trip to the router, which becomes both the bottleneck and a single point of failure. A Layer 3 switch keeps it local and at wire speed.

It does not supply PoE. If the floor's phones, cameras or access points need power from the network cable, the GWN7813P is the model to order.

Frequently asked questions

Do I actually need Layer 3?

Only if you have more than one VLAN and they need to talk to each other. One flat network, or VLANs that stay separate by design, will never use it — buy the Layer 2+ GWN7803 instead and save the difference. We would rather tell you that than sell you the bigger box.

What does routing on the switch change in practice?

Traffic between VLANs stays on the switch instead of travelling to the router and back. The router stops being the bottleneck for internal traffic, and a router reboot no longer cuts VLANs off from each other.

Does it replace my router?

No. It routes between your own networks. You still need a router or firewall for the internet connection, NAT and security at the edge.

Does it supply PoE?

No — that is the GWN7813P. Check what is plugging in before ordering.

Is the management licensed?

No. It manages from its own web interface or free through GWN.Cloud.
