Grandstream GWN7811 8-Port Gigabit Network Switch with 2 SFP

The Grandstream GWN7811 is an eight-port Gigabit Layer 3 managed switch with two 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplinks — the smallest switch in the GWN7810 enterprise range, and the point at which routing moves onto the switch itself.

That is the real difference from a Layer 2 switch. With Layer 3 the switch can route between VLANs in hardware rather than sending every packet up to the router and back. On a network with a voice VLAN, a data VLAN and a camera VLAN that all need to talk to each other, that removes a bottleneck people usually only find after they have built it.

Two 10-Gigabit uplinks on an eight-port switch look excessive until you use them. They are what lets a small edge switch sit under a 10-Gigabit core without becoming its slowest link, or run a redundant path so a single fibre failure does not take the cabinet offline.

Frequently asked questions

Do I actually need Layer 3?

Only if you have VLANs that need to talk to each other and enough traffic between them to notice the round trip through the router. A single flat network, or VLANs that only reach the internet, does not need it.

Does it supply PoE?

No. The GWN7811P is the PoE version, with up to 30 W per port and a 120 W total budget.

Why two 10G uplinks on eight ports?

So the switch is never the slow link under a fast core, and so you can run a second path for redundancy. Aggregated, they give 20 Gbps back to the core.

Is there a CLI?

Yes, as well as the web interface — which matters if your team scripts configuration or works from templates.

Does the management cost anything?

No. GWN.Cloud and GWN Manager are both free, and the switch's own interface works without either.

Are SFP+ modules included?

No. Buy them in pairs — both ends of a fibre run must be the same type and speed.
