Grandstream GWN7832 12Ports 10G SFP Layer 3 Aggregation Managed Switch

The Grandstream GWN7832 is an all-fibre aggregation switch: twelve 10-Gigabit SFP+ ports, 240 Gbps of switching capacity, and full Layer 3 management. It has no copper ports at all, and that is the point — it is the box every other switch in the building plugs into.

In a network of any size, the access switches on each floor eventually need somewhere to converge. Chaining them to each other works until it does not; an aggregation switch gives every cabinet its own 10-Gigabit path to the core, so a busy floor cannot slow down a quiet one.

Budget for the optics. Twelve SFP+ ports means up to twenty-four modules once you count both ends of every fibre run — and modules are not included with the switch. They also have to match at each end. On a project this is a real line item, and it is the one people forget until the switch has already arrived.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any copper ports?

No. All twelve ports are 10-Gigabit SFP+. If you need copper on the same switch, look at an access switch with SFP+ uplinks instead.

Are modules included?

No. Every link needs a module at both ends, and they must match. Twelve ports fully populated is twenty-four modules — price that in from the start.

Can I use it as a core switch?

Yes, for a medium network. With Layer 3 routing and 240 Gbps of capacity it can act as the core as well as the aggregation layer in most buildings.

Do I need an aggregation switch at all?

If you have more than two or three access switches, almost certainly. Chaining switches to each other makes every hop a shared bottleneck and makes faults far harder to isolate.

Is there a CLI?

Yes, as well as the web interface — which matters at this layer, where configuration is usually templated rather than clicked.
