Grandstream GWN7812P 16-Port Gigabit Enterprise Layer 3 Managed PoE Network Switch

The Grandstream GWN7812P is a sixteen-port Gigabit Layer 3 managed PoE+ switch with four 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplinks and a 240 W power budget — the middle of the GWN7810 enterprise range, and the size most floor cabinets actually need.

Sixteen powered ports covers a realistic floor: a dozen desk phones, two or three access points and a camera, with routing between VLANs happening on the switch instead of bouncing through a central router. Four 10-Gigabit uplinks then give the cabinet more than enough headroom to hand it all back to the core, with spares for redundancy.

240 W across sixteen ports is 15 W each if every one is used. That suits phones and standard access points well. Three PoE+ access points at 30 W plus a dozen phones is also comfortable. Sixteen devices at full PoE+ draw is not — that would be 480 W. Count the watts.

Frequently asked questions

Can all sixteen ports draw 30 W?

No. 30 W is the per-port maximum; 240 W is the total. Sixteen devices at full PoE+ would need 480 W. Add up the actual wattages.

Will it power a PoE++ device?

No. This is 802.3af/at up to 30 W. For 802.3bt devices such as PTZ cameras or Wi-Fi 7 access points, look at the GWN7816P or a Pro-series switch.

Do I actually need Layer 3?

Only if you have VLANs that need to talk to each other and enough traffic between them to notice the round trip through the router. A flat network does not.

What do I do with four 10G uplinks?

Aggregate two to the core for 20 Gbps, keep one for a redundant path, and leave the fourth spare. Few sixteen-port switches need all four in use at once.

Is there a CLI?

Yes, as well as the web interface — which matters if your team scripts configuration or works from templates.

Are SFP+ modules included?

No. Buy them in pairs — both ends of a fibre run must be the same type and speed.
