Grandstream GXP1628 HD IP Phone

The Grandstream GXP1628 is the GXP16xx model that earns its place on a busy desk. Alongside the familiar two lines and 2.95-inch backlit display it carries eight dedicated BLF keys, so a user can see which colleagues are free and transfer to them with one press rather than looking up an extension.

It also moves the network ports up to Gigabit and adds integrated 802.3af PoE, which removes the two most common complaints about budget handsets: a PC throttled to 100 Mbps and an adapter cluttering the desk. For reception overflow, small team leaders and anyone who transfers calls regularly, it is a noticeably more capable phone than the GXP1620 or GXP1625 for a modest step up in price.

Frequently asked questions

What can the eight BLF keys be used for?

Each can monitor a colleague's extension, showing idle, ringing or busy status, or be set as a speed dial to any number if presence monitoring is not needed.

Does the GXP1628 have Gigabit ports?

Yes. Both switched ports are 10/100/1000 Mbps, so a daisy-chained PC keeps full speed — unlike the GXP1620 and GXP1625.

Is PoE included?

Yes, integrated IEEE 802.3af Class 2 PoE. A mains adapter is only needed where the switch does not provide power.

How does it compare with the GXP1630?

The GXP1630 adds a third line and account, a slightly larger 132 × 64 display and 4-way conferencing, but keeps the same eight BLF keys.

Is there a current-generation equivalent?

The GRP2604 is the closest modern replacement, with ten BLF keys, six SIP accounts and GDMS provisioning.
