Grandstream WP816 Cordless WiFi IP Phone

The Grandstream WP816 is the Wi-Fi 6 entry handset. It sits at the same price point and the same battery life as the older WP810, but with two additions that decide most purchases: a Wi-Fi 6 radio (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and Bluetooth for a wireless headset.

Wi-Fi 6 matters less for the speed than for the behaviour. On a floor with dozens of devices competing for airtime, a Wi-Fi 6 handset gets its turn more predictably, which is what keeps a call clean at four in the afternoon rather than only at eight in the morning.

Two SIP accounts carry a personal extension and a shared department number. The 1500mAh pack gives up to 6 hours of talking and 120 hours on standby, and it is the same pack the WP810, WP820 and the DECT DP730 use — one spare part number covers a mixed fleet.

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from the WP810?

Same battery, same 6 hours, same two SIP accounts. The WP816 adds Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth. If your access points are Wi-Fi 6 or the floor is busy, that difference is worth having; if the site is quiet and older, the WP810 does the same job for less.

Does Wi-Fi 6 make calls faster?

Not faster — steadier. Voice needs very little bandwidth but is unforgiving about delay. Wi-Fi 6 schedules airtime better, so on a crowded floor the handset waits less. That is what you hear.

Do I need a DECT base station?

No. It joins your existing wireless network and registers to your phone system. What it does need is proper access point coverage — send us a plan and we will check it.

Can I use a Bluetooth headset?

Yes, that is one of the reasons to choose this model over the WP810. There is also a 3.5mm jack for a wired headset where wireless is not permitted.

Is it suitable for outdoor or wash-down areas?

No — it has no ingress protection rating. For weather, wash-down or handsets that get dropped, specify the WP825 or the IP67-rated WP836.

Will one charge last a shift?

Six hours of talking and 120 hours on standby covers a normal working day comfortably. For long or double shifts, keep a spare pack — the same one fits several handsets in the range.
