Grandstream GWN7700M 5-Port 2.5G Unmanaged Switch with 1 SFP

The Grandstream GWN7700M is a five-port 2.5-Gigabit unmanaged switch with a 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplink. Every copper port negotiates 100 Mbps, 1 Gigabit or 2.5 Gigabit automatically, and the fibre port takes a 1G or 10G module for the run back to the core.

That combination is unusual at this size and price. A small switch that can feed multi-gigabit access points and NAS boxes on copper, and then leave the cupboard on 10 Gigabit fibre, removes the bottleneck that used to make small switches useless for anything modern.

Unmanaged means unmanaged. There are no VLANs, no port isolation, no per-port statistics and nothing to log into. If you need to separate a guest network from a staff one, or want to see which port is saturated, this is the wrong switch — look at the GWN7721 for the same 2.5G ports with Layer 2 Lite management.

Frequently asked questions

Does it supply PoE?

No. This is the non-PoE model — devices plugged into it need their own power. The GWN7700MP is the same switch with four PoE ports.

Can I create VLANs on it?

No. It is unmanaged: no VLANs, no web interface, no configuration at all. If you need a separated guest network, choose the GWN7721 instead.

Do I need 2.5G?

Only if something you own can use it — a modern access point, a NAS, a multi-gigabit workstation adapter. On ordinary Gigabit devices this behaves exactly like a Gigabit switch, and costs more for nothing.

What goes in the SFP+ port?

A 1G or 10G module and a matching module at the far end. Modules are not included, and both ends of a fibre run must be the same type — buy them in pairs.

Will it work with older 100 Mbps equipment?

Yes. The copper ports auto-negotiate down to 100 Mbps, so old printers and door controllers connect without trouble.

Is it quiet?

It draws very little — a 12 V 1 A adapter — so there is no PoE power stage generating heat. That makes it a reasonable choice for an office cupboard or a room where noise matters.
