Grandstream GWN7670WM In-Wall Wi-Fi 7 Access Point

The Grandstream GWN7670WM is a wall-mounted 802.11be Wi-Fi 7 access point — dual-band, 2×2:2 MIMO, up to 3.6 Gbps of aggregate wireless throughput and 2.5 Gbps of wired, on a single 2.5G PoE+ port. It brings the current generation of Wi-Fi to rooms where a ceiling unit is impractical or unwanted.

Wi-Fi 7's real additions are structural rather than headline speed: multi-link operation lets a client use more than one band at once, 4K-QAM packs more bits into each symbol at close range, and preamble puncturing lets the AP keep using a wide channel when part of it is occupied. Together they make a busy room behave better — provided the clients are Wi-Fi 7 too.

Two things to check before ordering. The 2.5G port only earns its keep if the switch behind it is also 2.5G — on a plain Gigabit switch the AP is capped at a gigabit no matter what the radio does. And on a fleet of Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 laptops, you are buying headroom for the next refresh rather than speed today. Both are fine reasons to buy it; neither is what the box says.

Frequently asked questions

Will my existing laptops get faster?

Only a little. MLO and 4K-QAM need Wi-Fi 7 clients to do anything. Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 devices connect normally and benefit from the better radio and scheduling, but not from the headline features.

Do I need a 2.5G switch?

Not to make it work — the port negotiates down to Gigabit. But on a Gigabit switch the AP cannot deliver more than a gigabit to the wired network, whatever the radio is capable of.

What power does it need?

PoE+ over the same 2.5G port. Check the switch's total power budget as well as its port count when several APs share one switch.

Does it need a controller?

No. It has an embedded controller that manages up to 50 GWN access points. Larger estates move to GWN Manager on-premise or GDMS Networking in the cloud.

Where should it be mounted?

On a wall at roughly head height, clear of metal and away from a corner. Wall-mounted APs radiate outward rather than downward, so one per room is the usual pattern rather than one per floor.

How is it different from the GWN7670?

Form and placement. The GWN7670 is the ceiling-mounted dual-band Wi-Fi 7 unit; this is the wall-mounted one, for rooms where nothing can go overhead.
