Grandstream GWN7721PE 8-Port 2.5GbE PoE+ Managed Switch
The Grandstream GWN7721PE is a multi-gigabit Layer 2 Lite managed switch aimed at the awkward middle ground where Gigabit is no longer enough but a full 10G chassis is overkill. Eight 2.5 Gigabit copper ports all deliver PoE at up to 30W each, which is exactly what modern Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 access points want on both counts — more than a gigabit of uplink and more than a gigabit of power headroom.
Where it differs from the rest of the GWN7721 family is the ninth port: a 10 Gigabit copper port capable of supplying 90W, alongside a separate 10 Gigabit SFP+ cage. That combination lets you feed a high-draw device such as a multi-radio outdoor AP or a PoE-powered downstream switch, while still keeping a fibre uplink free. Total switching capacity is 80Gbps and the PoE budget is 130W. Management is free for the life of the switch through GWN Cloud, GDMS or the embedded GWN Manager — no controller licence to renew.
Ideal for
- Small and medium sites deploying Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 access points that need more than 1GbE
- Comms cupboards needing PoE and a 10G uplink from a single 1U box
- Powering a high-draw device such as an outdoor AP or PoE-fed edge switch from port 9
- CCTV and intercom installs where cameras and door panels share the switch with data
- Offices upgrading from Gigabit PoE without moving to a full enterprise chassis
- Estates already using GDMS or GWN Manager for Grandstream APs and phones
Key features
- 8 x 2.5 Gigabit PoE ports — every copper access port delivers up to 30W, ideal for Wi-Fi 7 access points
- 10 Gigabit port with 90W PoE — port 9 powers high-draw devices that a normal PoE+ port cannot
- 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplink — a dedicated fibre cage so the copper 10G port stays free for a powered device
- 130W total PoE budget — enough for a full set of access points or cameras on one switch
- 80Gbps switching capacity — non-blocking headroom across all ports
- Layer 2 Lite management — VLANs, QoS and monitoring without the complexity of a full enterprise switch
- Free management for life — GWN Cloud, GDMS and the embedded GWN Manager web UI all come at no cost
- Multi-gigabit to the edge — 2.5GbE removes the uplink bottleneck that caps Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 throughput
- Rack or desktop mounting — fits a 19-inch cabinet or sits on a shelf in a small comms cupboard
- Single-box PoE and aggregation — reduces the need for separate injectors and uplink switches

Frequently asked questions
How does the GWN7721PE differ from the GWN7721P?
Both give you eight 2.5GbE PoE ports and a 130W budget. The GWN7721P has two 10G SFP+ uplinks; the GWN7721PE swaps one of those for a 10 Gigabit copper port that can supply up to 90W, so you can power a high-draw device from the switch.
What can I do with the 90W port?
It suits anything a standard PoE+ port cannot run — for example a multi-radio outdoor access point, a pan-tilt-zoom camera with a heater, or a small PoE-powered switch in an outbuilding.
Why does 2.5GbE matter for access points?
A Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 AP can push more than a gigabit of real traffic, so a 1GbE switch port becomes the limiting factor. A 2.5GbE port removes that ceiling without the cost of 10G everywhere.
Is the management platform free?
Yes. GWN Cloud, GDMS Networking and the embedded GWN Manager web interface are all provided at no cost, so there is no annual controller licence.
Can I run all eight PoE ports at full power?
Not simultaneously at 30W each — the total PoE budget is 130W, shared across the switch. In practice that comfortably powers a full complement of access points or cameras, which typically draw well under their maximum.
