Grandstream GWN7821P 8-Port PoE Layer 3 Multi-Gigabit Switch with 2 SFP+

The Grandstream GWN7821P is a compact Layer 3 multi-gigabit managed PoE switch: eight 2.5-Gigabit ports supplying up to 60 W each on a 240 W budget, and two 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplinks.

It is built for one specific and increasingly common job — feeding modern access points properly. A Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 access point wants more than a Gigabit port and often more than 30 W of power, and most switches give you one or the other. This gives both, on all eight ports, and then hands the traffic back to the core at 10 Gigabit.

240 W across eight ports is generous but finite. Four devices at 60 W accounts for the lot. In practice a mix — three or four high-draw access points plus a few ordinary devices — is what this switch is sized for. As always, add up the wattages rather than counting the ports.

Frequently asked questions

Can all eight ports draw 60 W?

No. 60 W is the per-port maximum; 240 W is the total. Four devices at full draw would use it all.

Why 2.5G rather than Gigabit?

Because modern access points can push more than a gigabit over the air. On a Gigabit switch, a Wi-Fi 7 access point is capped by its cable rather than its radio.

Do I need Layer 3 on an eight-port switch?

Only if VLANs on this switch need to reach each other with real traffic between them. Otherwise the GWN7721P gives you 2.5G and PoE at Layer 2 Lite for less.

Will it power ordinary PoE devices?

Yes. 802.3af and 802.3at devices negotiate for what they need and take no more.

How is it different from the GWN7822P?

Scale. The 7822P has 24 ports — 16 Gigabit and 8 at 2.5G — with four 10G uplinks and a 360 W budget. This is the compact eight-port version where everything is 2.5G.

Are SFP+ modules included?

No. Buy them in pairs — both ends of a fibre run must be the same type and speed.
