Grandstream GWN7701P 8-Port Gigabit 4-Port PoE+ Switch

The Grandstream GWN7701P is an 8-port Gigabit unmanaged switch with PoE+ on four of the ports. There is nothing to configure: plug it in, plug the devices in, done. That is the whole proposition, and for a small office or a camera run it is usually the right one.

Read the power budget, not the per-port figure. Each PoE port can deliver up to 30 W, but the switch has 60 W in total to share. Two hungry devices will use it all. Four desk phones will not come close. Count the real draw before assuming four PoE ports means four of anything.

Switching capacity is 16 Gbps, which is more than eight Gigabit ports can generate.

Frequently asked questions

Can all four PoE ports run at 30 W?

No. The total budget is 60 W across all of them. Two devices at 30 W each will use the lot. For four access points or four cameras, add up their real draw first — this is the most common mistake with small PoE switches.

Unmanaged — what am I giving up?

VLANs, QoS and any visibility into what the switch is doing. If you need to separate voice, CCTV and guest traffic, or prioritise calls over file transfers, you need a managed switch — the GWN7801P is the equivalent with management.

Do I need to configure it?

No. There is no configuration to do and no web interface. That is a feature in a small office and a limitation in a larger one.

GWN7701P or GWN7701PA?

How many devices need power. Four PoE ports here; the PA has all eight. If you are powering more than four things, or want room to grow, take the PA.

Is it silent?

Yes — fanless, so it can sit in an office or under a desk rather than in a cupboard.
