Grandstream GWN7706 48-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Switch with 2 SFP

The Grandstream GWN7706 is a forty-eight-port Gigabit unmanaged switch with two SFP fibre uplinks and 100 Gbps of switching capacity. Nothing to log into, nothing to configure — and forty-eight ports is a lot of desks for a switch that needs no attention at all.

It suits the floor where every device brings its own power: computers, printers, servers and links onward to other switches. The two SFP ports matter more than they look, because copper Ethernet stops at 100 metres and a switch this size is often at the far end of a building from the comms room.

Be honest about whether unmanaged is right at this size. Forty-eight ports usually means a real office, and a real office usually ends up wanting a separated guest network or a way to see which port is saturated. If that is at all likely, a managed switch costs less than replacing this one in a year.

Frequently asked questions

Does it supply PoE?

No. Devices plugged into it need their own power. For 48 managed PoE ports, look at the GWN7806PL Pro.

Can I create VLANs?

No. It is unmanaged — no web interface, no configuration. At forty-eight ports that is worth thinking about carefully before you buy.

What do the SFP ports take?

Gigabit SFP modules, with a matching module at the far end. Modules are not included and both ends of a fibre run must be the same type.

Is 100 Gbps enough for 48 ports?

Yes. Forty-eight Gigabit ports plus two SFP running flat out in both directions is within that figure, so the switch is non-blocking.

How much power does it use?

About 30 W for the switch itself. Without a PoE stage there is very little heat, which matters in a full cabinet.

Should I buy managed instead?

At this size, probably — unless you are certain nobody will ever need VLANs, port statistics or traffic prioritisation. The GWN7816 is the Layer 3 equivalent.
