Grandstream GWN7711P 8-Port Layer 2 Lite Managed Switch with 4 PoE Ports

The Grandstream GWN7711P is the PoE version of the GWN7711: eight Gigabit ports, four of them supplying smart dynamic PoE for phones, cameras and access points, with Layer 2 Lite management through a web interface, GWN Manager or GDMS Networking.

For a small office that is usually the whole switching requirement in one box — a few desk phones, an access point, a camera at the door, and VLANs to keep the guest Wi-Fi away from the accounts machine. The management platforms are free, so the VLANs actually get configured rather than remaining a good intention.

It also does 24 V and 48 V DC passive PoE-out, which deserves a word of caution. Passive PoE puts voltage on the pairs without negotiating with the device first. That is exactly what some older cameras and wireless bridges need, and exactly what will damage equipment that expects standard 802.3af/at. Enable it deliberately, per port, for devices you have checked.

Frequently asked questions

How many ports supply power?

Four of the eight. Plan which devices need power before you patch — and keep the uplink on one of the non-PoE ports so you do not waste a powered one.

How much PoE can it deliver in total?

The four powered ports share one budget, so the limit is watts rather than ports. Add up what your devices actually draw — four cameras at 15 W is a very different load from four PoE+ access points.

What is passive PoE-out and should I use it?

It puts 24 V or 48 V on the line without negotiating first. Some older cameras and wireless bridges require it; standard 802.3af/at devices can be damaged by it. Enable it only for a device you have confirmed expects it.

Does the management cost anything?

No. GDMS Networking in the cloud and GWN Manager on-premise are both free, and the switch's own web interface works without either.

What does Layer 2 Lite not do?

Routing between VLANs. That stays with your router or a Layer 3 switch such as the GWN7811P.

Can I manage it alongside our access points?

Yes — GWN switches and access points appear in the same view, which is the main reason to keep a site on one brand.
