Grandstream GWN7801P 8-Port Gigabit Enterprise Layer 2+ Managed PoE Network Switch

The Grandstream GWN7801P is an eight-port Gigabit Layer 2+ managed switch with PoE+ on every port and a 120 W total budget, plus SFP uplinks for fibre back to the core.

It is the natural comms-cupboard switch for a small office: enough ports for the phones, a couple of access points and a camera, enough power to run all of them, and enough management to keep the guest Wi-Fi off the accounts machine. The management platforms — GWN.Cloud and GWN Manager — are free, so the VLANs actually get configured rather than remaining a good intention.

120 watts across eight ports is 15 W each if every one is used. That comfortably covers eight desk phones, or four phones and two PoE+ access points. It is not eight devices at the full 30 W, which would need 240 W. Write the wattages down before you patch.

Frequently asked questions

Can all eight ports draw 30 W?

No. 30 W is the per-port maximum; 120 W is the total. Eight devices at full PoE+ would need 240 W. Add up the actual wattages.

Will it power a PoE++ device?

No. This is 802.3af/at up to 30 W. For 802.3bt devices such as PTZ cameras or Wi-Fi 7 access points, look at the Pro series.

What does Layer 2+ give me?

Advanced VLANs for traffic segmentation, advanced QoS for prioritising voice, and IGMP snooping so multicast does not flood the network. Routing between VLANs belongs to a router or a Layer 3 switch.

Does the management cost anything?

No. GWN.Cloud and GWN Manager are both free, and the switch's own web interface works without either.

Is eight ports enough?

Count what plugs in, add the uplink and leave two spare. Eight ports fills faster than people expect once phones, a printer and an access point are counted.

Are SFP modules included?

No. Buy them in pairs — both ends of a fibre run must be the same type and speed.
