Grandstream GWN7604 Indoor AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 Access Point

The Grandstream GWN7604 is an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 access point with a four-port Gigabit switch built into it — and two of those ports supply PoE to something else. That combination is what makes it interesting: one cable arrives at the room, and the room gets Wi-Fi, wired sockets and power for a camera or a desk phone.

The radio is the same class as the rest of the mid-range GWN line: 2×2:2 MU-MIMO on 2.4 GHz, 3×3:2 on 5 GHz, up to 3 Gbps aggregate, up to 256 concurrent clients and around 100 metres of coverage. Management is through GDMS Networking in the cloud or GWN Manager on-premise, alongside the rest of a GWN estate.

Watch the power chain. The uplink port takes PoE or PoE+ to run the access point itself; what the two PSE ports can then pass on depends on what came in. If you intend to power a camera and a phone from it, feed the uplink from a PoE+ port, not a basic 802.3af one.

Frequently asked questions

Can it really power other devices?

Yes — two of the four Gigabit ports are PSE ports that supply PoE onward. What they can deliver depends on what feeds the uplink, so use a PoE+ source if you want headroom.

Does it replace a switch in the room?

For a handful of devices, yes. Four Gigabit ports covers a TV, a phone, a printer and the uplink. It is not a substitute for a proper switch in a comms cabinet.

How is it different from the GWN7660E?

The switch and the reach. The 7604 adds four Gigabit ports with PoE out but quotes around 100 metres of coverage; the 7660E has one port and quotes 175 metres. Choose by whether you need wired sockets or wider coverage.

Can I power it from a mains adapter instead?

Yes, it accepts either a power adapter or PoE/PoE+ from the switch. Bear in mind that a mains-powered AP loses the resilience of a UPS-backed comms cabinet.

Is 100 metres enough?

For a room or a small suite, comfortably — and that is the job this unit is designed for. For an open floor, use a ceiling AP with more range and place it centrally.

Can it be managed with the rest of our GWN kit?

Yes. GDMS Networking in the cloud or GWN Manager on-premise handle it alongside every other GWN access point and switch on the site.
