Grandstream GWN7605 Dual-Band WiFi Access Point

The Grandstream GWN7605 is the affordable indoor Wi-Fi 5 access point in the GWN range: dual-band 2×2:2 MU-MIMO with beamforming, support for 100 or more concurrent clients, and two Gigabit ports with PoE and PoE+.

It is aimed squarely at medium user density — an office, a shop, a small school, a practice. Not a lecture theatre, not an empty warehouse. For that middle ground it does the job at a price that lets you put an access point in every room rather than one in a corridor and hope.

Two access points usually beat one better one. If you are choosing between a single high-specification unit and two of these, two almost always wins, because the biggest gain in Wi-Fi comes from putting the radio closer to the people rather than from making the radio bigger.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wi-Fi 5 still worth buying?

For ordinary offices and shops, yes. Wave-2 with MU-MIMO handles phones, laptops and streaming without difficulty. Move to Wi-Fi 6 for high density or to match an estate standard, not for the label.

How many devices will it really handle?

100+ is the association figure. The practical number is lower and depends on what they are doing — a room of laptops on video calls is a very different load from a room of phones checking email.

Do I need a controller?

No. There is one embedded in the access point for small sites, and GWN.Cloud or GWN Manager handle larger estates — all free.

PoE or PoE+?

Either will bring it up. Check the switch's total power budget as well as its port count when several access points share one switch.

Can I mesh it instead of cabling?

Yes, but every mesh hop costs throughput, because the access point shares its radio between serving clients and reaching its parent. Cable where you can.

One better AP or two of these?

Usually two of these. Coverage improves far more from moving the radio closer to people than from a bigger radio further away.
