The Grandstream GWN7605LR is an outdoor long-range Wi-Fi 5 access point: dual-band 2×2:2 MU-MIMO, 1.27 Gbps of aggregate throughput, 100 or more concurrent clients, a quoted 250-metre range and IP66 weatherproofing, with two Gigabit ports.

It is the sensible choice when the problem is distance rather than crowd. A car park, a yard, a holiday park, the walk between two buildings — places where a handful of people need a usable signal a long way from the building, and paying for a four-stream radio would be money spent on capacity nobody will use.

Count the people before you count the metres. If the same area regularly has dozens of devices on it at once, the 4×4:4 GWN7630LR is the right unit and this one will feel slow. If it is a quiet outdoor space that simply needs covering, this does the job for considerably less.

Frequently asked questions

Will it really reach 250 metres?

Outdoors, with line of sight. Trees, vehicles and buildings all reduce it, and the client has to be able to answer from that distance — a phone in a pocket is not a match for a pole-mounted antenna.

This or the GWN7630LR?

Count the devices, not the metres. The 7630LR carries 200+ clients on a four-stream radio over 300 m; this carries 100+ on two streams over 250 m. For a quiet outdoor space, this is the better value.

What does IP66 cover?

Dust-tight and protected against heavy rain and water jets. It is built to sit outside permanently; the installation still needs to be done properly, with the cable dressed so water runs away from the gland.

Can I use it indoors?

You can, but it is the wrong tool — long-range antennas throw signal outward rather than spreading it evenly. The GWN7605 is the indoor version of the same radio.

How is it powered?

PoE or PoE+ over the Ethernet run, which keeps it to one cable up the pole.

Can it mesh to other access points?

Yes — useful for chaining coverage across a site where no further cabling is possible. Each hop costs throughput, so cable the first unit properly.
