Grandstream GWN7624 In-Wall Dual-Band Wi-Fi Access Point

The Grandstream GWN7624 is an in-wall 802.11ac Wave-2 access point with an unusually strong 5 GHz radio: 4×4:4 MU-MIMO, up to 2.03 Gbps of aggregate throughput and up to 200 concurrent clients, from a unit that fits in a faceplate.

It brings three Gigabit network ports out of the wall alongside the Wi-Fi, two of which supply PoE — so the same plate can feed a desk phone or a small camera without another power source in the room. One cable arrives; Wi-Fi, wired sockets and local power come out.

Wi-Fi 5, not Wi-Fi 6 — and that is a real choice, not an oversight. Four spatial streams on 5 GHz gives it more simultaneous capacity than most in-wall units, and for a room of ordinary devices that matters more than the standard on the box. If the estate is standardising on Wi-Fi 6, the GWN7661 is the equivalent; if you are buying on capacity per pound, this is often the better unit.

Is Wi-Fi 5 a problem in 2026?

Not for a hotel room. Wave-2 handles phones, laptops and streaming televisions without difficulty, and the 4×4:4 radio serves more of them at once than many Wi-Fi 6 in-wall units. Choose Wi-Fi 6 if the estate is standardising on it, not because the number is bigger.

Can it power a phone?

Yes — two of the three Gigabit ports supply PoE, which is exactly what a hotel room needs when the phone and the plate share one drop.

Will it fit my existing back box?

It is designed to replace a standard in-wall plate, but depth varies. Check behind one before ordering a floor's worth — back box depth is what stalls in-wall installs, not the specification.

How much area does one cover?

One room. A faceplate access point sits low and radiates outward through furniture, so plan one per room rather than one per corridor.

What does 4×4:4 give me in a small room?

Simultaneous service rather than single-device speed. With four streams the access point talks to several clients in the same slot instead of cycling through them — useful in a family room or a shared flat.

Can it be managed with the rest of our GWN kit?

Yes. GDMS Networking in the cloud or GWN Manager on-premise handle it alongside every other GWN access point and switch on the site.
